Jack Elgin (Jeremy Irons) is a reporter and editor working for the Economist magazine. He decides to changes his family's vacation plans from Greece to India in order to take care of an easy reporting story there. Unfortunately, on a stopover for mechanical issues the plane is hijacked and Jack ends up watching his wife and two daughters get gunned down by the hijackers. When he later discovers that the hijackers were captured but released without charges he is quite angry. With the help of an ex-intelligence agent friend, Kate Stockton (Charlotte Rampling), he goes on a crusade to get justice for his family. Meanwhile Jules Bernard (Forest Whitaker), an FBI agent, is on his tail, and may end up helping him to accomplish his mission.
