Mystery and murder in Paradise. Paradise, Massachusetts, a small New England coastal town, has a new Police Chief. After losing his wife and his job in Los Angeles, Jesse Stone (Tom Selleck) takes the Chief's job in the sleepy village where he can quietly drown his sorrows in scotch. He gives out a few parking tickets by day and at night he goes home to an isolated house, his old hound, and frequent phone calls to his ex-wife. But trouble always seems to find Jesse and when the former Police Chief (Mike Starr) dies, Jesse suspects it's murder. He also finds more problems when the town's biggest businessman (Saul Rubinek) tries to manipulate the Sheriff's Department.
