Old and wealthy lawyer Henry Hearst (Gene Hackman) reports finding a young girl dead on the beach. Police captain Victor Benezet (Morgan Freeman) who is assigned to the case knows Hearst from the past. He calls Hearst to the police station to clarify some of his statements. The interview was supposed to last for ten minutes but as the interview progresses Benezet beings to discover contradictions in Hearst’s story. Along with his partner Felix Ownes (Thomas Jane) he suspects that Hearst is possibly guilty of murder. As the grilling continues it becomes apparent though that he is hiding something more sinister. His young wife Chantal (Monica Bellucci) comes to the police station and helps Benezet to get to the depth of the ugly truth about her husband.
