"The Godfather: Part II" is the follow up to director Francis Ford Coppola's original movie "The Godfather". The movie has two main plots. First, it details the transition of power for a powerful Mafia family, the Corleones. As the Mafia is a traditional society, Vito Corleone (Roberto Deniro) has handed off the reigns of authority to his son Michael (Al Pacino). The film shows how Michael outmaneuvers and eliminates his enemies, often in graphic and brutal terms. The second main plot of this movie skips back in time to when Vito Corleone rose to become a powerful crime boss. Vito's background, upbringing, move into the criminal underworld, and eventual rise to power are depicted. The two plots parallel each other as it shows the ultimate consolidation of power for both of the Corleone Family criminal leaders.
